Strategies to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- To get the largest rental for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Jordan's View: Incredible Lighthouse views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for a great stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, note any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
