Tricks and tips to get the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. To book the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose the best rental:

  • Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Livin' Outta Line: Canal front home with private dock, sunrise views. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke attraction you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
