Tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking a perfectvacation home:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Ride About is a relaxing and comfortable island home and offers offsite docking. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a fantastic stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
