Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your Ocracoke rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your search:

  • First, have your family select trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. MILLION DOLLAR DOUBLE WIDE!!! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
