Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Ocracoke vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning and choosing the best Ocracoke rental home:

  • Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Hooligan Sunset: Waterfront deck, sunsets, private boat dock. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you simply love, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
