How to book the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family commit to vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Flip Flops: Dog friendly, deck, screened porches, rooftop deck. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
