Tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Ocracoke attractions.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Choosing and booking the best Ocracoke rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Dolphin and the Drum: Views of marsh and sound. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
