How to book the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your Ocracoke vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Make a plan and choose the perfectrental home:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. The Sea Glass Cottage - Gorgeous waterfront Property in the Northern Pond Area has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
