How to find the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your rental home in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the perfect rental in Ocracoke:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. NP43: Charming waterfront home on Pamlico Sound has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the host before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke attraction you simply love, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
