How to get the best vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Ocracoke. Reserve your Ocracoke rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Planning and picking the perfect Ocracoke vacation home:
- Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Seafield House: Dog friendly home, sound side beach, perfect getaway. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you simply love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
Know before you go:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
