Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Ocracoke. To book the best rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Ocracoke attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
