Ocracoke vacation rental tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke vacation in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

How to choose and book your prefect Ocracoke vacation home:

  • First, have your family decide on dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Castle Villa II: Escape to a place of serenity. Pool. Sauna. Dock. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
