Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to choose the best rental in Ocracoke:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Ms Joy Bell: Pet friendly, decks, screened porches, distant waterview has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you long to visit, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.

More considerations:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. text the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
