How to get the best rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • To book the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Ms Joy Bell: Pet friendly, decks, screened porches, distant waterview has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
