Tips and Tricks to get the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your search:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Serendipity: Historic Home with Modern Conveniences has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke attraction you are crazy about, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Advice for a terrific stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
