Finding the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing your Ocracoke vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Serendipity: Historic Home with Modern Conveniences has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
