Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Ocracoke. To find the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Two If By Sea II: Fabulous views of Silver Lake. has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
