Tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Ocracoke. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting and booking the rightvacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Friendly Grrrl: 3 bedrooms, 2 Baths. Dog Friendly. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is best for your family.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
