Tricks and tips for getting the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

How to choose the best rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • To start, have your group agree to date ranges and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Stranded On Purpose \"Bluebird Day Too\": Spacious dog friendly with a pool table has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. text the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
