Ocracoke rental property booking tips and tricks:
Find your perfect rental:
- June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. Reserve your Ocracoke rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Stranded On Purpose \"Bluebird Day Too\": Spacious dog friendly with a pool table has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your invoice.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
