Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. To book the largest rental for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental in Ocracoke:
- First and foremost, have your family select dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Redbeard's Claim: Professionally decorated, perfect relaxing island home. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you simply love, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
