Rental property booking tips:
Getting the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Faraway Oaks: Canal front home, open floor plan, private dock. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
