Ocracoke vacation rental booking tips:
When to book a Ocracoke rental home & When to go:
- Summer time is high season in Ocracoke. Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental home:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Crew's Quarters: Dog friendly convenient to restaurants, shops and galleries has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If not, email the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your trip.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you are enamored with, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
