Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Ocracoke vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Crew's Quarters: Dog friendly convenient to restaurants, shops and galleries has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your family.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
