Getting the best vacation property experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. To find the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the perfect vacation home in the Ocracoke area:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Castle Villa I: Escape to a place of serenity. Pool. Sauna. Dock. has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
