Finding the best Ocracoke rental experience:

When to book a Ocracoke rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, change your family's Ocracoke trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the perfect rental home in the Ocracoke area:

  • To start, have your family agree to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Anticipation: Private dock, wrap around deck, expansive sound views. has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
