Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Teacher's Lair: Beautiful waterfront home on a canal in Oyster Creek has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- During arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
