Strategies to get the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting and booking a perfect Ocracoke vacation home:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Court Jester: Pet friendly, fenced rear yard with deck. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your invoice.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
