How to find the best rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the perfect rental home:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Art-Sea: Architectural beauty, private boat dock has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you are crazy about, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
