Tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Ocracoke vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose and book your Ocracoke vacation home:

  • Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Dog Friendly close to Ocracoke's beaches, screened porch, deck views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
