Finding the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Ocracoke vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to choose the best rental:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Dog Friendly close to Ocracoke's beaches, screened porch, deck views has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Call the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
