Strategies to get the very best rental experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, change your family's Ocracoke trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing the perfect Ocracoke vacation home:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Dog Friendly close to Ocracoke's beaches, screened porch, deck views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
