Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Ocracoke rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.
Selecting and booking the perfectvacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Havana Cabana; Pet Friendly and family friendly home has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke attraction you simply love, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
