Ocracoke vacation rental booking tips:

When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home & When to go:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Book your Ocracoke rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting the best vacation rental in Ocracoke:

  • Start by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Havana Cabana; Pet Friendly and family friendly home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email the host before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your family.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
