How to find the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the best rental home in Ocracoke:
- Start by having your group select a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Dock House: Waterfront on canal in Oyster Creek has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. Otherwise, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
