Tips to get the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. A Gift from The Sea: Spectacular Home with Amazing Views of the Pamlico Sound has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is best for your trip.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
