How to find the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the most suitable rental for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Ocracoke attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Ocracoke vacation home:

  • Start by having your family agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. McNeal Cottage: Comfortable home, large private back yard. has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
