Tips to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer is high season in Ocracoke. To find the most suitable rental for your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to select the perfect rental home:

  • Start by having your group agree to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Isle Of Skye: Sandy sound side beach, excellent for water activities. has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you long to visit, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
