Soundhouse is a sweet, vintage bungalow on the usually peaceful North Pond with it’s own sandy beach. SoundHouse has been owned by the same local family since 1972. The owner resides close by. It features a shady front porch and a back porch with a great handsome waterfront view, overlooking your own little sandy beach. Great for kayaking, paddle boarding, an simple walk to ferry, museum, eateries, shopping and “downtown” waterfront with fantastic sunset vistas. Limited to four people, no family pets, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 2 queen beds, one twin, a sizable open plan kitchen, dining and living area. There is an outdoor shower and washer/dryer, but experience old Ocracoke by washing your dishes by hand, no dishwasher! Parking for two cars. Appreciate the soundside beach but please respect neighbor’s beachfront property lines, it’s not a community beach. No power or sailboats. Smoking is not allowed inside SoundHouse. Smoking is allowed outside in the yard only. Events and enormous events are NOT allowed in SoundHouse.
All guests of SoundHouse are STRONGLY urged to purchase cancellation insurance when you book through Vacation Rental By Owner. Things happen. You want to be protected.

Our top Ocracoke vacation rental tips:
How to get the best value:
- To get the best value, try shifting your family's Ocracoke vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation rental in Ocracoke:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Sweet Waterfront Cottage, 4 person limit has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
