Strategies for getting the best rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Sweet Waterfront Cottage, 4 person limit has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your agreement.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. message the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
