Tips and Tricks to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:

When to visit Ocracoke & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Make a plan and choose the best Ocracoke vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Northern Pond: Dog friendly, wrap around porch, screened porch. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
