Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Getting the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. Book your Ocracoke rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your family decide on trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Better Days: Pet friendly home with enclosed yard. Screened porch. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
