Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and choose the bestrental home:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Olivella: Pet friendly, artistic, eclectic artwork, decks, porches. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Advice for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
