Tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Ocracoke vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning and choosing yourrental home:
- Start by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Piper Green: Dog friendly on nearly an acre, privacy and tranquility. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Advice for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
