Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Summer is high season in Ocracoke. To find the largest rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the best rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Wisteria Cottage: Covered porches, deck, and spacious screened porch. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke beach you crave, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.

Additional considerations:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
