Strategies for getting the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- To find the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Ocracoke restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect vacation home in the Ocracoke area:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Island House: Dog friendly, 3-stop elevator, screen porch, canalfront, boat dock has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
