How to find the best Ocracoke rental experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Finding the perfect vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Sass-Sea Views: Amazing views, decks, screened porch, rooftop deck has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. message the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
