Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best vacation rental:

  • Select your vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sass-Sea Views: Amazing views, decks, screened porch, rooftop deck has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your family.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
