Ocracoke rental property booking tips and tricks:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the perfect rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Time Flies: Centrally located popular dog friendly home. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke beach you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
