Our top Ocracoke vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Summer is high season in Ocracoke. To book the best rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the best rental home:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Stairway To Heaven: Located near the coffee shop and restaurants has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the host right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
