Tips and Tricks to get the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have coupons for local shops and restaurants.

Planning, picking, and booking your Ocracoke rental home:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Tom Frank Gaskins: Dog friendly historic home located near the harbor. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke destination you are crazy about, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your contract.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. text the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
