Booking the best Ocracoke rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Beverly's House: Dog friendly convenient to Silver Lake Harbor has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before booking the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is right for your group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
During your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
