Vacation rental tips:

When to book a Ocracoke rental & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Beach Nut Bungalow: Two bedroom home in Pamlico Point has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you crave, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
