How to get the best vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking the bestvacation home:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beach Nut Bungalow: Two bedroom home in Pamlico Point has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
