Our top Ocracoke rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. To book the most suitable vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Ocracoke attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the best rental:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Olde Ocracoke Church: Light and airy featuring beautiful artist décor. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If not, email or call the host before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
