Tips for getting the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

Find your best deal:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Ocracoke. Reserve your Ocracoke rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefect Ocracoke rental:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Holloman House: Dog friendly home with plenty of space has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke beach you simply love, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
