Tricks and tips to get the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your Ocracoke rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your search:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. A Ferry Trail Ending: Dog friendly, two wings joined by screened porch has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation group.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
