Tricks and tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Planning and picking your prefect Ocracoke rental home:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 'Baby Duck' -Make Memories in Our Charming Island Bungalow has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
