Ocracoke vacation rental home tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the best vacation home in the Ocracoke area:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The Simpson House: Old Ocracoke Charm with modern updates and stunning artistic has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
