Tips to get the optimal rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking your Ocracoke rental home:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Purple Martin: Old fashioned, quaint. Rooftop deck view of Lighthouse. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke attraction you love, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. text the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
