Our top Ocracoke rental booking tips:

When to visit & When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. The Simpson House: Old Ocracoke Charm with modern updates and stunning artistic has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
