Tricks and tips to get the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

When to visit Ocracoke & When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home:

  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. To get the largest rental within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Ocracoke attractions.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the perfect vacation home in Ocracoke:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Outstanding Views of Pamlico Sound and Sunsets has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
